The Commission for A New Georgia
Administrative Services Task Force

The Task Force was charged with charting a system to streamline delivery of state-provided services to communities and local governments.

Their objectives included 1) determining that the right agencies are delivering the right service, 2) ensuring equity and quality of services across the state, 3) reducing bureaucracy so maximum dollars reach the customer at the level of local delivery, and 4) aligning districts to consolidate and coordinate efficient, effective delivery.

Members represented city and county governments, the state legislature, regional development centers, social service providers, the business community and state agencies. Both associations of county and municipal governments participated.

Recommendations focused on replacing the current system of Region Development Commissions with a smaller number Regional Commissions (RC), establishing new, uniform governance, funding and accountability structures. A newly formed Regional Planning Commission chaired by the Governor would be formed to coordinate statewide planning and resource allocation.
