![]() Two Task Forces delved into management of the State’s massive real estate holdings ($11 billion in assets) and construction projects -- a problem area taken on by four commissions over the past 30 years, with no real progress. Task Forces called for the first statewide inventory of government-owned and leased buildings and land to determine a total record of space, location, usage, value, or cost. As recommended, the Governor appointed a State Property Officer to manage the portfolio. Georgia now has a comprehensive inventory of government real estate, pinpointing every parcel of land, building, and lease on the state map. Anyone can see all the details on a public website. To date, surplus properties have generated over $22 million in sales. Over 1,000 individual leases for space rented from the private sector have been evaluated, and where necessary, consolidated and renegotiated. Nearly $8 million in cumulative savings or cost avoidances have been realized.
